Red Thread
Red Thread is a fungal disease that isn't necessarily fatal to grasses but can make lawns look awfully bad for awhile. As the name implies red thread is reddish and pink in color before turning white. The fungus usually shows its self in lawns when the weather is damp and cold, and the lawns are hungry for food. (Nitrogen) To help prevent red thread keep your lawn feed regularly with quality fertilizer blended specifically for lawns. Keeping the lawn mowed regularly and watered properly will also reduce the chances of a fungal disease occurring. You might find that no mater what you do you just can't stop the red thread from occurring. Don't beat yourself up. The fungus doesn't necessary kill anything and the damaged grass leaf usually grows out fairly quickly as the weather warms.
